The frigates will increase the strength of the Indian Navy and further strengthen India’s position in the Indian Ocean. Both these warships are a great example of India’s indigenous shipbuilding and self-reliant India. This will give great strength to the Navy in long-range surveillance and anti-submarine missions. The Ajanta and Shakti suits of the warships proved helpful in electronic warfare.

Both the warships are equipped with modern weapons. These are equipped with BrahMos supersonic missile, India-Israel’s Barak-8 long-range missile system, 76 mm naval gun and torpedoes for fighting at sea. Their range is up to 5,500 nautical miles and they can also conduct anti-submarine operations from helicopters. This enables these warships to patrol remote sea areas and show strength with India’s aircraft carrier addresses. Advanced sonar systems have been installed in these warships, which detect submarines and threats hidden under water and warn in advance. All the sensors installed in it are connected to the CMS-17A combat management system, which is the control hub of the entire ship. Both warships are also equipped with Chaff rocket launchers, which work to confuse and neutralize enemy missiles.

These can jam enemy radars and communication signals. Both are ‘Nilgiri’ class warships, which have been designed by the Navy’s Design Bureau. The special thing is that INS Udaygiri is the 100th ship of the design bureau. This warship is made of 75 percent indigenous material and it took more than three years to prepare it.
