India 1st innings
India’s first innings didn’t start well; KL Rahul was dismissed for just 2 runs, bowled by Chris Woakes’ inswinging delivery. India lost their first wicket at a just 15 runs.
After that, Karun Nair and Yashasvi Jaiswal provided a steady start, making it seem like the Indian batters were no longer facing any trouble. However, Karun Nair was caught by Harry Brook off Brendon Carse bowling. Nair scored 31 runs off 50 balls, including 5 fours.
Yashasvi Jaiswal was in top form, smashing 87 runs off 107 balls before Ben Stokes got him out. Then, Shubman Gill stole the show with a breathtaking double century, hammering 269 runs off 387 balls, packed with 30 fours and 3 sixes. Rishabh Pant chipped in with 25 runs, but Nitish Reddy managed only 1 run. Ravindra Jadeja played a stellar innings of 89 runs, hitting 10 fours and 1 six. Gill and Jadeja put on a massive 203-run stand for the sixth wicket. Washington Sundar also shone, adding a quick 42 runs. India’s first innings wrapped up at a commanding 587 all out. England’s Shoaib Bashir led their bowling with 3 wickets, while Chris Woakes and Josh Tongue picked up 2 each, and Joe Root, Brydon Carse, and Ben Stokes took 1 wicket apiece.

England 1st innings
England put up 407 runs in their first innings, but India took a solid 180-run lead. Mohammed Siraj was on fire, picking up 6 wickets, and Akashdeep chipped in with 4. For England, Harry Brook played a cracking 158-run innings, and Jamie Smith stayed not out at 184. Opener Zak Crawley scored 19, but Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, and captain Ben Stokes all got out for zero. Joe Root made 22, and Chris Woakes added just 5 before falling. Jamie Smith’s unbeaten 184 was the highlight. Shockingly, six England batsmen scored ducks in that innings!
India second innings
India played a brilliant second innings, scoring 427 for 6 before calling it a day, setting England a huge 608 runs to chase after taking a 607-run lead. Captain Shubman Gill was the star with a stunning 161, while KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Ravindra Jadeja chipped in with awesome fifties. Jadeja stayed not out on 69. England’s Josh Tongue and Shoaib Bashir picked up two wickets each, while Brydon Carse and Joe Root got one each.On day four, India kicked off at 64 for 1 but lost Karun Nair early for 26. KL Rahul teamed up with Gill, played steadily, and hit a nice 55 before Tongue got him out.
Then, vice-captain Rishabh Pant came in, played some bold shots, and added 110 runs with Gill for the fourth wicket before Bashir sent him back for 65.Gill kept going strong, teaming up with Jadeja for a big 175-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Fresh off a double ton in the first innings, Gill smashed another century, scoring 161 with 13 fours and 8 sixes before Bashir got him out. Nitish Reddy didn’t last long, scoring just 1. Jadeja, not out on 69, and Washington Sundar, not out on 12, stayed till India decided to declare.
England last innings massive challenge
England had a tough time chasing the massive target and lost Zak Crawley right away for zero. Akashdeep was on fire, sending Ben Duckett back for 25 with a brilliant delivery. He wasn’t done yet and bowled Joe Root for just 6. Just like that, India grabbed three quick wickets!

Rain held up play on the fifth day, but Akashdeep came out firing, taking two early wickets. Ben Stokes and Jamie Smith tried to fight back, putting on 70 runs together for the sixth wicket, but Washington Sundar got Stokes out, and the teams went to lunch. After the break, India quickly wrapped up the last four wickets to end the match. Akashdeep was the hero, bowling brilliantly to take six wickets in England’s second innings after grabbing four in the first. Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar each added one wicket.England lost Chris Woakes (7), Jamie Smith (88), Josh Tongue (2), and Brydon Carse (38) in the second session. Shoaib Bashir stayed not out on 12. Jamie Smith played a great knock, scoring a fifty for England. The next Test, the third of the series, starts on July 10 at Lord’s.
India Jumps to Fourth in WTC Rankings

This was their first victory in two matches, giving them 12 points and a 50% points percentage.
