Despite this, the innings was historic, especially thanks to the three centuries.

When play resumed after lunch, Rishabh Pant came out to bat and quickly reached his half-century. He then shifted gears, accelerating his scoring rate. At one point, it seemed like both Pant and KL Rahul, who had already scored a century in the first innings, would reach their hundreds together. After reaching 90, Pant adopted a more cautious approach and eventually completed his century off 130 balls. With this, he became the second wicketkeeper-batsman in the world, and the first from India, to score a century in both innings of a Test match. However, soon after reaching his hundred, Pant was dismissed. He scored 118 runs off 140 balls, including 15 fours and 3 sixes. Thanks to Pant’s historic century, India dominated the second session, scoring 145 runs in 27 overs.

On the fourth day, KL Rahul, who had returned unbeaten on 47 at the end of day three, showcased brilliant batting. He displayed his impeccable technique, proving why he excels in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) countries. Rahul scored his ninth Test century off 202 balls, playing a series of exquisite shots. Remarkably, he maintained control over 90% of the shots he played during his innings. Rahul also became the first Asian batsman to score three Test centuries as an opener in England. He was eventually dismissed for 137, having faced 247 balls and struck 18 fours during his masterful innings.
India’s second innings ended at 364, securing a lead of 370 runs and setting England a target of 371. Powered by centuries from KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant, India built a commanding lead. The duo forged a crucial 195-run partnership for the fourth wicket, enabling India to set a challenging target for England. However, after Pant and Rahul were dismissed, India’s innings faltered, with the lower-order batsmen failing to make an impact. Josh Tongue struck three times in a single over, triggering a collapse. India lost their last six wickets for just 31 runs, mirroring their first innings, where they had lost their final seven wickets for 41 runs. Apart from Pant and Rahul, Karun Nair scored 20, Shardul Thakur made 4, and Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 25. Mohammad Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, and Prasidh Krishna failed to score.
